D.G. Zamolodchikov, V.I. Grabovskii, G.N. Kraev Dynamics of Carbon Budget in Forests of Russia for Last Twenty Years // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2011. No 6. С.16-28.

A methodology for the regional assessment of carbon budget in forests based on the balance between the supplement of carbon pools in the course of forest growth and their losses in cutting, fires, and other disturbances was elaborated. The carbon budget was calculated for subjects of the Russian Federation for 1988-2009. In Russia, the carbon stock increased from 80 in 1988 to 230-240 Mt yr-1 in the late 2000s. The trend revealed is explained by the considerable reduction in the scope of forest use in the early 1990s. European Russia is characterized by the higher mean carbon stock as compared to that in the Asian part due to specific features of the forest protection against fires organized in the region.
