L. G. Biazrov, K.B. Gongalsky, L A. Pelgunova, A V. Tiunov Isotope Composition (?15N) of Lichen Thalli in Forests in the Vicinity of the Chernobyl Atomic Power Station // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2012. No 5. С.50-58.

The contents of δ15N and total nitrogen were determined in the thalli of the epiphyte lichens, Cladina mitis, Cladonia crispata, Hypogymnia physodes, and Parmelia sulcata, collected on seven forest plots at distances of 1.5-37 km from the Chernobyl atomic power station (CNPP). A total of 63 samples were analyzed. The activity of 106Ru, 134Cs, 137Cs и 144Ce was measured. The δ15N values in C. mitis, C. crispata were found to be associated with the activity level of radionuclides in their thalli and a distance of sampling from the CNPP. In the Hypogymnia physodes thallus, the δ15N content positively correlated with the activity levels of radionuclids measured in it and radioactive pollution of the site. The δ15N values in all the lichen species investigated were independent of the total N content in their thalli. The total N concentration in the thalli was not related to their radioactive contamination, as well as to the radioactive contamination of the site.
