The role of large wood residues (LWR) in the carbon cycle of native taiga forests is assessed. The carbon pool and budget of LWR -the ratio between the input carbon flux (stand dieback) and output flux (xylolysis) in forest biogeocenoses of different types - were calculated; The succession state of forest biocenoses in Arkhangelsk, Leningrad regions, and the Republic of Komi was determined. The carbon reserves in LWR, carbon fluxes related to the dieback, the carbon flux related to xylolysis, and the carbon budget in the stand dieback-xylolysis system varied from 0.4-54.4, 0.088-2.494, 0.001-0.824, and -0.634 - +2.483 т С ha-1 yr-1, respectively. The carbon pool in LWR and carbon flux related to xylolysis depended linearly on the LWR reserves. The former primarily depended on the phase of age dynamics of the stand.

Stand mortality, xylolis, age dynamics of stand..
