M.N. Kazantseva Natural Regeneration in Middle Taiga Green Moss Pine Forests of Western Siberia in Oil Pollution // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 1. С.39-45.

Natural regeneration of green moss pine forests under oil pollution of different degree and duration is analyzed. The regeneration was shown to begin the next year after oil spill. The destruction of stands and living grass cover create conditions that promote the regeneration. The total number of the regrowth on the place of oil spills taken place 5-6 years ago is 19.8-25.8 thousand ind. ha-1. This value is higher than the control one by 1.3-1.6 times. However, the predominance of younger age categories in the regrowth composition makes difficult the forecast of successful regeneration on the place of the 5-year-old oil spill. Nowadays, the number of the reliable pine regrowth is sufficient only on the place of the 7-year-old spill. Two main forest-forming species, Pinus sylvestris L. and Betula pendula Roth., participate in the regeneration. The latter dominates in the number and growth rate. The efficiency of regeneration decreases significantly at high oil doses spilled and a continuous character of its distribution.
