M.V. Surso Morphogenesis and Phenological Rhythms of Female Reproductive Structures in Common Juniper in the Northern Taiga Subzone // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 2. С.64-70.

Processes of morphogenesis (formation of megasporangium, macrosporogenesis, macrogametophytogenesis, formation of archegonial complexes, and embryogenesis) in female reproductive structures of common juniper (Juniperus communis) were described using light microscopic investigations of permanent microtomed preparations. The morphogenesis of outer coverings of seed germs and the formation of the galberry parenchyma are described. In the northern taiga, microstrobile primordia were shown to be identified even in mid-June, soon after "flowering". The formation of sporiferous tissues begins in the year of forming reproductive organs and ends in the year of pollination before the meiosis of macrosporocytes. A pollination mechanism in juniper is described. Fertilization takes place on the second year in 45 days after the pollination. The complete morphological differentiation of embryo terminates on the third year, early in June, when galberries remain green. The data on microphenology of the female reproductive cycle in common juniper in the northern taiga are presented. The development of female reproductive structures in juniper is the most dynamic in seedbuds of the second year.
