A.V. Bykov, O. A. Bukhareva The Influence of Burrowing Activity and Underground Passages of Small Mammals on Forest Grasses in European Russia // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 4. С.52-56.

The problems concerning the formation of burrow systems by animals and the influence of this process on some herbaceous species and the grass cover in various forests of European Russia are considered. The passages were shown to damage plant rootstocks stimulating the vegetative reproduction of plants. The process of forming burrow systems supports the structure of the forest grass cover and provides for the distribution of forest plant species that are adapted to various kinds of the burrowing activity of small mammals.
