D.G. Zamolodchikov, V.I. Grabovsky, V.V. Kaganov Natural and Model Assessment of Carbon Pool in Slash of Forests in Kostroma Region // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 4. С.3-11. The volume of slash was determined on linear transects in forests of different ages and species composition in Kostroma region. The data obtained were represented as volumes and reserves of carbon per unit area. The mean slash volume in the forests studied was 26.99±4.20 m3 ha-1; the carbon content in the slash, 6.99±1.05 t C ha-1. A trend of increasing the carbon reserves in slash with age of stands was revealed. The natural values were close to the quantitative estimates obtained in forests of Kostroma region using the earlier developed model for the formation of carbon pool in large woody remains. The model values of carbon in the slash over the whole area of Kostroma region (4394.5 x 103 ha) ranges from 18.9 to 37.6 x 106 t C ha-1.
