Assessment of Sustainable Forest Management Criteria with the ICP Forests Indicators // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 5. С.62-75. This paper addresses the assessment of international criteria of sustainable forest management with ICP Forests indicators. The ICP Forests allows evaluation of the Criterion 2 - Maintenance of Forest Ecosystem Health and Vitality and the Criterion 4 - Maintenance, Conservation and Appropriate Enhancement of Biological Diversity in Forest Ecosystems. The informative indicators for the Criterion 2 are, as follows: crown defoliation extent, parameters of atmospheric precipitation and soil composition, and photosynthetic parts of dominant trees. The Criterion 4 is evaluated using the indicators of biological diversity such as the tree species composition and the age structure, number and areal share of the groups of forest vegetation associations, number of species of the trees and shrubs occurring in the forest, genetic resources and species richness. An attempt is made to show if the network of permanent plots reflected to the full extent the typological and age structure of forests in Karelia and Karelia Isthmus.
