Zamolodchikov D.G., Grabowsky V.I., Shulyak P.P., Chestnykh O.V. The Impacts from Fires and Clear-cuts in Carbon Balance of Russian Forests // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2013. No 5. С.36-49.

The regional assessment of forest carbon budget (ROBUL) system is expanded with the procedures of uncertainty calculations. The forest carbon balance of Russian Federation for 1988-2009 is assessed. The fire impact on forest carbon budget is estimated using both: official statistics and remote sensing data. For the study period the average carbon sink from the atmosphere to Russian forests was 205±65 106 t С yr-1 on average, varying from 56±71 106 t C yr-1 in 1998 to 287±60 106 t C yr-1 in 2001. Interannual variations of carbon sink are controlled by the dynamics of carbon losses due to the forest fires. The distribution of the fire-induced carbon losses in Russian regions is examined using remote sensing data.
