P.N. Melankholin, A.B. Lysikov The road and trail network impact on grass vegetation and soils of the oak forests of Moscow and Greater Moscow Area // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2014. No 2. С.38-45.

To assess the character and intensity of roads and trails impact on forest biogeocenoses the integrated survey of the aboveground vegetation and several soil properties was held in the oak forests in the Greater Moscow Area as well as in the urban area of Serebryanyy Bor experimental forest district. Together with the negative transformation of the soil state in the forest (the increase of the bulk weight, soil hardness, gleying extension, alkalinization) under the recreation impact, the significant changes of characteristics in grass storey were observed to take place along the trails. The road and trail network leads to the growth of the species saturation, changes the composition, increases the share of weeds and meadow species and decreases the forest group species in grass-fruticulose storey. Over a distance from roads and trails the overall species diversity decreases, and the contribution of the forest group species rises up.

Road and trail network, recreation, digression, urban forests, vegetation composition, species saturation, grass storey, forest soil, bulk weight, soil hardness..
