The potential ecological ranges of two forest forming species of the light coniferous forests based on the soil ecology data for Pinus sylvestris L., Larix sibirica Ledeb. L. gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr. and geography of suitability of soils for forest growth in Central Siberia. About 80% of Central Siberia occurred to be suitable for larch and pine by soil conditions. Currently pine forests occupy about 12% of the potentially suitable soils of the study region, and larch forests do 32%. The specificity of current larch and pine forests distribution at differently suitable soils was noticed and the role of soil and climatic factors of current light coniferous forests distribution is assessed.
