Alekseev A.S., Nikiforov A.A. Surficial topography controls of the structure and productivity of forest landscapes: analysis with 3D-modeling based on GIS-technology application (Lisino experimental forest station) // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2014. No 5. С.42-53.

Exemplified by forest fund areas located within the Lisino experimental forest station of Saint-Petersburg State Forest Technical University the influence of surficial topography on the structure and productivity of forest vegetation cover is studied. Based on the 3D digital elevation model of the surface studied and GIS created with MapInfo Professional 6.0 the 4 spatial units differing by absolute altitude are identified. Landscape interpretation of the spatial units was is provided based on simultaneous analysis of topographical, geological, geochemical and forest information with GIS tools. It is shown that based on spatial units studied the corresponding landscapes of the terrain rank are naturally identified. The ties between structure and productivity of forests of the different terrains are understood, and the digital map is created to allow defining unambiguously the natural margins of the terrains. The spheres of the practical application of the results of the study are provided.
