Bobkova K.C., Bessonov I.M. Natural Regeneration in Southern Taiga Spruce Forests of the European North-East // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2009. No 5. P. 10-16 (in Russian).

The forest-forming process under the canopy of southern taiga mature and over-mature spruce stands is characterized. The regrowth of different number, composition, and age is shown to be present in all the types of spruce stands. Its density changes from 1.1 to 9.4 thousand ind. ha-1. It is mainly represented by spruce with an admixture of fir, birch, more rarely cedar and aspen trees. Healthy coniferous trees of the 1st and 2nd age classes predominate. The successful regeneration of species-edifiers characterize the capability for the conservation of the structure and functions of these spruce ecosystems.
