Komarov A.S. Spatial Individual-Based Models of Forest Ecosystems // Forest Science (Lesovedenie). 2010. No 2. P. 60-68 (in Russian).

Specific features of modeling spatially distributed biological systems are described. A general definition of individual-based models (IBM-models) is presented, and concrete models of forest growth as examples are listed. The role of the spatial structure is accentuated; examples of the growth of different forests depending on their spatial structure are demonstrated. The successful application of the models is described in detail. IBM-models can be used for forest ecosystem modeling taking into account climate changes, soil nutrition, and nitrogen deposition. Some approaches to solve problems on sustainable forest use are considered.

Modeling, productivity, spatial structure, soil nutrition, mortality, forest growth, EFIMOD, ROMUL.
