The basic cytogenetic properties (mitotic activity, level and spectra of mitosis pathology, nucleus properties, and the presence of micronuclei) of seeds were studied in pine trees growing in the territory of the Khoper State Reserve. Significant variability of these properties in seed posterity reflecting their genetic heterogenety was found. Using the cluster analysis, four groups of seed progeny were distinguished in each studied areas: mutable, weakly mutable, and two intermediate ones. Every group is characterized. Cytogenetic characteristics of the groups distinguished are proposed to be used for the selection of parent trees producing mutable and weakly mutable seed posterities.

Scots pine, mitosis, mitotic activity, mitosis pathology, nucleus properties, cytogenetic polymorphism.
