Some parameters for the intrabiogeocenotic variability of carbon reserves in the litter, the carbon content and reserves in the top mineral layer of the soils under forests of the southern taiga in European Russia were quantified. The data obtained testify to the high variation of carbon reserves in the soils of forest biogeocenoses. In the spruce and small-1eaved forests, the variation coefficients of the carbon reserves in the litter and in the top mineral layer of the soils were 44-85 and 22-32%, respectively. The investigations саrriеd out showed that the type of biogeoconosis, the degree of soil moisture, and the type of parcel affect the variation of the carbon content and reserves only in the topmost (5 cm thick) mineral layer of the soils. In the deeper layers of the soils, this relationship was not observed. The relation between the soil properties and the position in tessera is often hidden due to the combined action of many other factors and is not always displayed.
